With Covid restrictions being lifted finally, our company is finally able to start attending and organizing events. On 16th of June, we have the privilege of partnering with Univeriti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Permatang Pauh, Penang to organize an event in conjunction with RF and Microwave Day.

This is not the first time such event is organized. Previously back in 2018 before the pandemic, UiTM had organize a similar event with hope of inspiring her students to better understand and grow a passion in the field of RF and Microwave. Naturally we at FILPAL are interested. With the world pushing hard for the deployment of 5G techs, the advents of Metaverses and so many other cool technologies, it is important for university students around Malaysia to get a better grasp of how RF and Microwave technologies play a role in the advancement of telecommunication industry in our country.

Morning Session

On that day, there were around 40 students and lecturers from the Electronic and Electrical Department (EE) attending. The morning session starts off smoothly with 4 adjunct lecturers given by different expertise in their fields. We have the privilege of giving talks explaining the possible challenges of 5G deployment in Malaysia, the solution to it and even a talk on the theory and practicality of how to perform Dielectric Properties Measurement.

The highlight definitely goes to the last talk of the morning session when the co-founder of TMYTEK, Ethan Lin called in all the way from Taiwan to share on challenges and solution in 5G NR & Satellite Communications.

Afternoon Session

After the talks, together with BirdRF and Kabex, we organized an exhibition to showcase the many products and technologies by the industry. It was a good time of making connections, explaining to attendees the functions of the products showcase and even discussing business opportunities. Some of our new products and designs got to make a first appearance to the public in this exhibition. Others such as TMYTEK also has the opportunity to showcase their newest 5G development kit. No doubt it was a fruitful session.

After lunch, we finally got the chance to once again give a hands-on workshop teaching about impedance matching using our very own EDA software simulation tool to the students and lecturers. The last time we have the opportunity to do this was back in 2017, 5 years ago. In the workshop, students and lecturers got to learn how to perform impedance matching of a circuit with the help of Smith Chart and tuning in our software. This is a good knowledge to know for any fledging engineers because impedance matching is key to ensuring that signals and input from the source are completely delivered to the output, which is very crucial when talking about telecommunications.

Looking Forward For More

Needless to say, the day was a fruitful day of knowledge sharing, making connections, doing business and even catching up with many old friends from the academia that we have not met in the long time due to the Covid restrictions. Here’s to hoping that we will have the chance to organize more talks and exhibitions in the future!
